What makes this experience unique?
Throughout the week, guests will explore diverse natural habitats, participate in birdwatching and wildlife tracking activities, and learn about ongoing efforts to restore native ecosystems and ecological processes across rural Uruguay.
Each experience is guided by local hosts and invited specialists in birdlife, mammals, native flora, ecology, regenerative land stewardship, tracking, medicinal plants and ecosystem restoration.
More than a nature tour, this is an opportunity to experience the living process of rewilding in one of South America’s most overlooked natural destinations.
With your contribution of US$ 1.200 you help sustain the rewilding and regeneration project of Las Nativas
The "journey".....
Day 1 — Discovering Las Nativas and Uruguay
Introduction to Las Nativas and to the natural landscapes of Uruguay.
A guided exploration across the different habitats of Las Nativas — a living mosaic representing the characteristic ecosystems of the eastern Uruguayan hill country: native grasslands, rocky outcrops, wetlands, streams, shrublands and native forest patches. Introduction to the principles of rewilding and ecological restoration in Uruguay.
Day 2 — In Search of Uruguayan Wildlife
Morning birdwatching session focused on the rich diversity of grassland, wetland and forest birds.
Afternoon wildlife tracking experience in search of mammals, reptiles and other non-flying creatures through footprints, signs, camera traps, sounds and habitat interpretation.
Guests will learn about current wildlife recovery efforts and species returning to rural landscapes.
Day 3 — Forests, Shrubs, Fungi and Grasslands
Exploration and identification of native plants, fungi and grassland ecosystems.
Introduction to medicinal, cultural and traditional uses of native species, while understanding the ecological importance of Uruguay’s native vegetation and the restoration of degraded habitats.
Day 4 — Laguna Garzón
Field excursion to one of the most representative coastal ecosystems of Uruguay.
Observation and identification of coastal wildlife, wetlands, migratory birds and dune ecosystems, while learning about conservation challenges and restoration initiatives along the Atlantic coast.
Day 5 — Laguna de Castillos, Ombú Forests and Palm Groves
Exploration of one of Uruguay’s most unique natural regions.
Visit to the famous Ombú forests and the native palm savannas of Rocha, discovering their biodiversity, ecological significance and conservation history.
Discussion about habitat connectivity and the importance of protecting large natural corridors for wildlife recovery.
Day 6 — Return to Las Nativas
Free afternoon to explore the property and surrounding region at your own pace.
Optional walks, wildlife observation, silence, rest, photography or personal immersion in nature.
A moment to slow down and reconnect with the rhythms of the landscape.
Day 7 — Circle of Reflections
A closing gathering to share experiences, observations and what was learned throughout the week.
A final reflection on nature recovery, biodiversity and the future of rewilding in Uruguay.
A small country — immense in nature. Departure after lunch.
